Technology Lineup Expands with AutoCAD
Another benefit from the recent KSU/SPSU consolidation is the expansion of our Technology programs. With that comes our new AutoCAD Essentials Certificate program.
AutoCAD is the most widely used computer-aided design (CAD) software for producing architectural, engineering and construction drawings. In this class, you will have the opportunity to complete a hands-on project that can be used as a foundation for your professional portfolio.
The course is instructed by Pavan Meadati, Ph.D., who also comes to us from Southern Poly. He brings nearly a decade of experience in teaching and consulting in the areas of building information modeling (BIM), laser scanning and project management. Pavan has served as an associate professor in the Construction Management Department at SPSU since 2007.[fbvideo link=”https://www.facebook.com/ksucontinuinged/videos/vb.53335158947/10153524685508948/?type=2&theater” width=”600″ height=”480″ onlyvideo=”1″]
We were able sit down with Pavan to learn more about the new program and who would benefit the most by enrolling. Here’s what he had to say:
What is AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is software we use as engineers and as architects as a basic communication tool.
What can you tell us about this new course?
This course is designed for those individuals who want to start their career as a design and documentation professional in various industries such as engineering, construction, architecture, manufacturing and so on.
What can we expect to learn in this course?
This course will teach you the basic concepts which are required for any professional to produce precise and accurate drawings in various industries. The course covers the AutoCAD workspace navigation and some basic drawing, editing and viewing tools.
You will be able to learn more about how to prepare a drawing object by using layers and how to insert reusable blocks. You will also learn how to add text, dimensions, hatching and how to prepare a layout for plotting.
Does this course have any prerequisites?
This is an introduction course. It doesn’t require any prior technical skills. This will be a hands-on and fun course.
Several employment opportunities are available to those individuals possessing skills in AutoCAD.
Employment of industrial designers is expected to grow through 2022 with the best opportunities for drafters with experience and formal training using CAD technology.
- $64,570 – industrial and commercial designers
- $60,350 – electrical and electronics drafters
- $54,510 – mechanical drafters
- $51,250 – architectural and civil drafters
