    Business Acumen for Professionals

    • Categories News
    • Date February 16, 2016

After 18 years of leading our Human Resources Management program, Ed Nangle is set to return to KSU Center to instruct an exclusive new seminar — Business Acumen for Professionals.

The half-day workshop will be held March 10 from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Registration is $319 and includes light refreshments beginning at 7:30 a.m.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to offer this seminar,” said Jennifer Henderson, program manager. “It allows us to fill a need in the business community and help individuals grow in their careers. We are excited to welcome back Ed who is a highly respected leader in his field.”

Ed possesses more than 40 years of industry experience. He is the founder and president of Corporate Management Consulting, Inc., and is well known for his contributions to the development of HR professionals through teaching the SHRM Learning System®. Ed also delivered HR programs to 12 Chinese delegations studying at KSU’s Executive MBA program.

“I am passionate about education and committed to giving back to our profession by providing mentoring and ongoing education,” he said.

    Impact Your Career
Business acumen is defined as the keenness and quickness in understanding and dealing with a business situation in a manner that is likely to lead to a good outcome. This workshop is designed to educate HR and payroll professionals, all levels of management, business leaders and students. Individuals aspiring to become leaders with strong business acumen will learn how financial intelligence can impact their careers in becoming a true business leader.

    Learning Objectives
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamentals and key drivers of business
    • Speak the language of the business
    • Participate as a true business leader in the organization
    • Contribute financial intelligence to the HR function

    Recertification Opportunity

    • For HRCI recertification, this workshop will satisfy the Business Management and Strategy requirements.
    • For SHRM recertification, this workshop will satisfy the primary competency of Business Acumen and the secondary competency of Relationship Management.

We were able to catch up with Ed to gather some of his thoughts about the upcoming seminar. Here’s what he had to say:

    Why is this class important?
This class is very important to those professionals that want to be engaged in leadership management of the business and not just limited to their specialty area. Each one of us needs to know how our organization makes the bottom line or meets the budget.

Besides HR, what other industries could benefit from this training?
I think that all industries will benefit from this class since all industries have a business model in order to be successful and that includes the language of business. Unfortunately, very few professional academic programs teach Business Acumen to the students.
