    Healthcare Instructor Q&A: Jenny Sibley

    We caught up with Jenny Sibley, a Healthcare instructor for our EKG Technician and Phlebotomy Technician courses. Jenny graduated from Kennesaw State University with a BSN and currently is in the MSN program through Jacksonville University. She has professional experience in cardiac ICU, outpatient cardiology and acute care clinic.

    Who is the ideal student for this course?
    Someone who is interested in looking for challenging courses that will work in conjunction with other medical classes to better prepare them for the workforce and help them to stick out from others. These are great tools to have and give a solid foundation to move forward from.

    What are the top 4 items students should expect to learn?

    1. They are capable of more than they think
    2. Critical thinking skills
    3. Basic anatomy and physiology
    4. Professionalism

    What type of opportunities will be available to students who take this course?
    These courses will help students stand out in comparison to others. The skills are applicable to a variety of settings increasing potential opportunities

    Why are you passionate about teaching this course?
    Cardiology is my passion; I enjoy it and attempt to share that with others. It’s very intimidating, so I try to take that out of it and teach it in a way that students will learn and be confident in their knowledge.

    Phlebotomy Technician students in classPhlebotomy is a skill and many in the workforce are thrown into it without much training. It’s an important skill and to understand it thoroughly is important for the safety of patients.

    What are you most looking forward to about teaching this course?
    It’s so rewarding to see progress over the course of the class. Students grow so much in a short amount of time and it’s incredible to be a part of that. I enjoy helping people to realize their potential and encourage them to reach their goals.

    What is your approach to teaching this course?
    Interactive; I feel students learn best when they are involved and actively learning. I also incorporate scenarios and experience to try to make it more real for the students.

    Any advice to students interested in taking this course?
    Nothing bad can come from educating yourself further. Knowledge is power and being prepared before stepping into a job will help the individual be more successful.
