New Program Spotlight: Real Estate Sales

    • Categories News
    • Date October 18, 2016

With interest rates continuing to remain at an all-time low, the real estate market is showing strong signs of growth. More specifically, Atlanta’s residential real estate market is booming this year with an increase in home prices nearly across the board. RE/MAX of Georgia reported the median price for all homes sold during the first six months of 2016 was five percent more than the same period in 2015. Additionally, home sales for July 2016 were up 469% compared with a year ago (RealtyTrac).

Have you pondered what it might be like to thrive in the world of real estate? The opportunities are out there and we are here to help you achieve it. Our new Real Estate Salesperson Prelicense Certificate class is designed to prepare you for a rewarding new career. Instructed by Alan Jennings, the eight-week course will fulfill the 75-hour Georgia Real Estate Commission education requirement and will help prepare you for the Georgia Real Estate Licensee examination.

We caught up with Alan to learn more about the new class and the industry. Here’s what he had to say:

Share a little bit of your background and how it relates to this class.
I am a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BBA degree major in real estate. I also hold an MBA from Shorter University. I started full time in real estate in 1976 and have been in several aspects of real estate, including brokerage, property management, real estate finance and appraisal. I have taught the licensing course since 1979. I have taught for KSU’s continuing education since 1999 for the real estate classes.

Give us an overview of the class. What can students expect to learn?
The salesperson prelicense class is the introduction to real estate. It teaches the basic legal concepts, language of real estate, appraisal, finance, transaction cost for buyer and seller, contract documents and much more.

Who is the ideal student for this class?
Those looking to change careers — nurses, teachers or anyone who has people skills looking to expand their horizons.

What are some the advantages of taking this in-classroom versus online?
Online versus classroom is strictly dealing with learning style and when you are available to learn. Classroom attendance is required. Online you can study at midnight in your pajamas. Classroom you have the ability to get immediate feedback and learn from other student’s questions.

    Why is this class important?
This class is the foundation to your ongoing career training in real estate.

Share an overview of the recent real estate climate? Why is it good to be in real estate?
Residential real estate is improving especially in the price range under $250,000. Homes in some subdivisions are selling in a matter of days. We have not seen that in years.
