Web Design Trio Provides Focused Approach to Creative Tech Careers
Web Design & Development demand is booming due to the growing popularity of mobile devices and e-commerce. Harness your creativity and gain valuable career training in one of our web design & development certificate programs today.
The Graphic Web Design, Front End Web Development, and Back End Web Development courses will instill you with the integral design or development principles and industry tools to put you at the forefront of technology. If you are looking to add value to your professional portfolio through hands-on projects and the creation of a functional website, then these courses will help you get there.
Graphic Web Design
This certificate is meant to introduce, repeat, and reinforce concepts to students through valuable hands-on and instructor-led exercises. Students are encouraged to find good design work in the world around them and then apply those good design techniques to their own websites. The material in this course is taught with a fast-paced approach meant to introduce these important concepts and develop them into practical skills.
Design applications, such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, are taught to encourage students to use their creativity when creating a good user experience on their website. Students who are looking to break into the world of web design will build solid foundational knowledge in HTML and CSS – giving them the necessary skills to propel them into front-end development. They will also be introduced to the key concepts of user interface and user experience. Typography, color theory, and wireframing will also be taught.
“The key to success in design is understanding how design affects usability,” says Program Manager Becca Mattox.
Front End Web Development
The course introduces new concepts, demonstrates them through lectures and examples, then reinforces the concepts through student projects. Students will learn and expand their knowledge of HTML/CSS with hands-on practice coding; programming languages like Vanilla JavaScript, jQuery, Angular; how to create responsive sites using Bootstrap; and WordPress, SEO, and web business fundamentals.
“The most important thing this course teaches you is how to be resourceful,” Becca said. “Front End Web Development isn’t about recreating the wheel. There are many free resources available as well as previously designed code that has been proven to work on several types of websites.”
Back End Web Development
This course will include information on what goes on behind the scenes. Back end and front end work with one another to keep a website running smoothly. Since most domain errors happen at the back end, this information will be just as important to learn as the information acquired in the Front End Web Development course. When you complete both the Front End and Back End Web Development courses, you can earn a Full Stack Web Developer Certificate.
Possible Career Opportunities
This field is filled with several job opportunities, such as web publications specialist, website designer, web producer, graphic artist, and media integration specialist. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of web developers is projected to grow 15% through 2026, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Salary.com reports that the median annual wage for web developers is $80,000 and high-end salaries can reach near $180,000. The median annual web designer salary is $73,913, with a range usually between $63,275-$84,469.
“These courses are made to help you succeed in this growing field. The most positive thing about these courses is the hands-on project work that students get to work on to reinforce concepts [which] lead to longer-term learning,” Becca said.
