In this course, rather than focus on their own writing process, students will spend this course peeling back the layers of an actual bestseller. Students will study what structures/styles the author uses, plot points demonstrated, and all other elements the author utilizes to create gripping scenes and intriguing characters.
A native Atlantan, June Converse received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Shorter College and then started her adult life in healthcare consulting.
It didn’t take long, however, for her to jump ship and do what she was meant to do – teach. After receiving her teaching certification at Mercer University/Atlanta, she joined the hardworking men and women in the public school system. Realizing many students needed something different than a public school environment, she opened Shepherd’s Ridge Academy, a full-accredited private school geared towards gifted students with serious extracurricular endeavors. Every year, she hosted 30 high school students in her home and taught all the required courses except physics and foreign language.
She retired from this job in 2012 and has since pursued a writing career. A lifelong love of learning, she has spent untold hours studying the craft of novel writing. With her first novel finished and her second in progress, she realized she missed the classroom. Using her new knowledge of the craft of writing, she developed a class that seeks to prove that often the best novels are formulaic – that classroom theory does translate to real world application.
June happily resides in Sandy Springs with her husband and they have two wonderful children. She is an enthusiastic exerciser, an accomplished cook, and loves reading anything and everything. She and her husband enjoy hiking with their dog, traveling, scuba diving and whatever other adventures they can find.
