XML Introduction – Online
Master the essentials of XML through easy-to-follow, real-world examples. Learn Visual Studio (VS) Express and the elements of programming: variables, loops, and branching. Use VS’s full-featured design editor to build efficient, professional-looking user interfaces. Discover methods for formatting XML and explore all the main XML techniques—XPath, XSL, schemas, namespaces, DOM, and SAX. Use XML to search, manipulate, validate, and merge XML files. Work with XML’s drawing language for displaying graphics like charts, drawings, and diagrams.
Learning Objectives:
- Compare XML and HTML and learn the fundamentals of XML.
- Learn the most common programming techniques such as creating variables and setting up loops.
- Learn how to present and transform data in an XML document.
- Store and display XML graphics.
- Explore the two main ways to manage XML data – DOM and SAX.

Requirements: Internet access, e-mail, Firefox, Internet Explorer (9.0 or above), Google Chrome, or Safari web browser, and Adobe PDF plug-in. Note: This course is not suitable for Mac users unless you have a Windows emulator such as Parallels installed to run the Windows OS on your Mac OS X machine.
You will need to create a login for your online classroom. Go to www.ed2go.com/ksuconed. Find your course by browsing the catalog or using the search bar. Click the ‘Add to Cart’ button. Select your start date and then create a Username and Password. You must make an 80 or higher on the final exam (online) to successfully complete the course. You may only take the exam once.
