This course deals with the law of torts – civil wrongs – and the claims and defenses available to the parties. Tort law includes automobile accidents, product liability, premises liability, professional malpractice, trespass, nuisance, defamation, negligence, strict liability, invasion of privacy and various factors that affect the right of a plaintiff to bring suit against a defendant. In this course students will learn the fundamentals of tort law including how to identify a tort and how tort claims are filed, investigated, pursued and defended.
David Currie
Principal of The Currie Firm, David Currie began his legal career in a large firm representing insurance companies where he gained first-hand knowledge of how insurance companies evaluate and settle claims of all kinds. For more than 30 years, he has also represented individuals in substantial personal injury and wrongful-death claims.
Currie has practiced law since 1978 in the state and federal courts of Georgia and Florida in the areas of tort law, contract law, and insurance litigation representing plaintiffs, defendants, and insurance companies in a wide variety of cases. He has successfully tried and negotiated the settlement of hundreds of wrongful death, personal injury, and insurance coverage cases and has been lead counsel in more than 150 jury trials. He has had extensive experience in all of the following areas of practice, among others.
Currie is an instrument-rated private pilot, motorcyclist, and a veteran of the United States Army Special Forces and the father of four sons. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Georgia and Georgia State University and his law school education at the University of Georgia. In law school, he was awarded the Order of Barristers for excellence in courtroom advocacy and was the winner of the Richard Russell Moot Court Competition.
He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Florida Bar, and the National Crime Victim Bar Association. He has earned the top “AV Preeminent” rating from the Martindale-Hubble Law Directory.
