OLLI Resumed International Travel with Italy Trip Announcement

OLLI Resumed International Travel with Italy Trip Announcement

After postponing international travel due to COVID-19, OLLI at Kennesaw State University was pleased to announce the return of its long-anticipated trip to Italy. With borders reopening, plans moved forward to tour Rome, Florence, Siena, and Montepulciano.

Montepulciano holds special significance for KSU as the university’s first permanent international education site. Located in a picturesque Renaissance hill town in southern Tuscany, it offered participants an opportunity to experience authentic Italian culture in a historic setting.

The trip was led by Ken Hill, a KSU faculty member residing in Montepulciano. His local expertise ensured that travelers experienced both Italy’s iconic landmarks and hidden gems known primarily to residents.

Information Sessions Provided Trip Details

Two information sessions were held to share itinerary details, travel dates, and program costs. Ken Hill joined remotely for the first session, even offering attendees a glimpse of Montepulciano’s beautiful surroundings from his window.

The sessions allowed participants to ask questions, review logistics, and provide input on future international travel destinations.

Renewed Excitement for Group Travel

The Italy announcement marked a meaningful return to international exploration for many OLLI members. After a period of limited travel, the opportunity to reconnect through shared global experiences was especially welcomed.

Traveling with OLLI has long provided members—many of whom travel independently—with a supportive environment to explore new destinations while building friendships with others who share similar interests.

Continued Programming and Scholarship Opportunities

In addition to travel programming, OLLI introduced a revised course catalog format that combined Personal and OLLI classes into one streamlined listing, making registration more accessible for participants.

Members age 50 and older remained eligible for two scholarships per fiscal year, with application details available through the program website.

The Italy trip represented not only a return to travel but also a renewed commitment to lifelong learning, cultural exploration, and community engagement.
