Frequently asked questions
Have questions about our online fundamental construction certificate programs? Start with these common answers, or connect with our team for more details.
-
Can I take just one class, or do I have to complete the whole certificate program?
Yes, you can take just one class or complete the full certificate program. Students receive a certificate of completion after each class, and then another certificate once they complete all required courses for the full certificate program.
-
How long is each class?
Most classes are 10 weeks long. Seminars are 6 weeks.
-
What time does class meet?
There is no set class time. The classroom is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can complete coursework whenever it fits your schedule.
-
What is the difference between self-paced and paced classes?
Self-paced classes can be started at any time and completed as slowly or as quickly as you like, as long as you finish within 10 weeks. This option is designed as an independent study format without interaction from other students.
Paced classes follow a 10-week term with weekly due dates built into the course structure. A new module is released every Sunday, and assignments are due the following Monday at 2:59 AM PST. You have 8 days to complete each lesson before moving on to the next module. Instructor support and interaction with other students are available through discussion forums.
-
What is the weekly schedule like?
Course workload and structure vary by class type. Self-paced courses allow you to work on your own schedule within the 10-week access period.
Paced classes are designed for steady weekly engagement. Review the textbook reading and lesson materials each week to stay on track. Suggested post-by dates also help keep discussion participation timely and focused.
-
Can I take multiple classes at one time?
Each class typically requires about 3 to 5 hours of work per week. Most students who are working full-time take 1 or 2 classes at the same time. We generally do not recommend taking more than 3 at once, but the right number depends on your schedule and what you can realistically manage each week.
-
Do I have to take the classes in order?
Most courses are designed to stand alone, but we recommend following the suggested sequence in numerical order to maximize learning outcomes.
-
How long does it take to complete a certificate program?
Most students complete a certificate program in about a year, but you can take longer if needed. Students have flexibility to move through the program at a pace that works for their schedule.
-
Who are the instructors?
Instructors are experienced construction professionals who bring decades of field and estimating experience to their teaching. Each instructor holds advanced credentials in construction management, construction, engineering, architecture, or business.
-
I have completed all the required courses for a certificate program. Now what?
