Whether you’re completely new to the game or have a little experience, this class will provide you with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to enjoy this captivating game. Over the course of six weeks, you will: Learn the history and cultural significance of Mah Jongg, understand the basics of the game’s structure, including tiles, suits, and the Mah Jongg card, master the rules and strategies for playing American Mah Jongg, practice gameplay in a supportive and social environment, develop critical thinking and strategic planning skills. Classes will include a mix of instructional lectures, hands-on practice, and group play, ensuring that you gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. By the end of the course, you will feel confident in your ability to play Mah Jongg and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with it!

Marie Ellsworth pursued her BA in Criminology, graduating with highest honors at the age of 50, driven by a desire to be a role model for her daughter. Originally from Ohio, Marie relocated to Florida in 1980, where she balanced life between her home in Tampa and a cabin in Blue Ridge. Two years ago, she chose Canton as her retirement destination. Seven years ago, Marie discovered her passion for Mah Jongg, and it has since become her mission to share the game’s rich culture and intricate strategies. Her classes are ideal for both beginners and those looking to enhance their skills.
