Medical Interpreter Certificate
Individuals interested in starting a career in the medical field, nurses or medical office staff, and those looking to utilize bilingual abilities will benefit from this program. Students will learn about Hispanic culture in the healthcare environment, idioms and regional dialect adaptions, along with effective communication skills in both Spanish and English. This course also teaches scope of practice for interpreters, confidentiality and HIPAA compliance, and helps prepare students for a national certification exam.

High school diploma or equivalency is required. Must be 18 years or older. Receive a 75% or higher on the Interpreter Written Skills Assessment. No medical background is necessary. Computer and internet access are required.
By registering for the class, you acknowledge that you are fluent in both Spanish and English. Should you not meet the language requirement, no refunds or transfers will be approved.

One requirement of national certification is successful completion of a 40-hour course on Medical Interpreting. Our extensive Oral Interpreting practice also will help you prepare for taking the exams on the national level.
