Does your Intensive English Program provide I-20s?

When you get your I-20, you will need to take the following steps:

  • Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee to the government. Information about the I-901 fee can be found at fmjfee.com .
  • Make an appointment with the U.S. consulate or embassy in your country. You can view visa wait times at the U.S. Department of State visa wait times page . Take the following documents to your appointment:

Can I transfer to Kennesaw State University's IEP from another language school?

Yes. You will need to apply to our program and submit the information requested by the KSU International Student and Scholar Services office.

What should I do if I have family members who need to be included on my I-20?

Yes, you can add your spouse and minor children to your I-20. Additional proof of funding is required to add your spouse and/or children to your I-20. More information will come from the International Student and Scholar Services office when you request your I-20.

After I finish the Intensive English Program, does that mean I am accepted into KSU for a degree program?

Admission to the IEP does not indicate acceptance to Kennesaw State University for a degree program. Completion of the IEP satisfies the English proficiency requirement for undergraduate and graduate admissions. However, students who are seeking admission to a degree program at KSU must apply for that program and meet all other requirements for admittance to KSU.

Au Pair Language Requirements

Program Details

The Intensive English Program has helped many J-1 Au Pairs meet their program’s language requirements. Au Pairs may choose to attend IEP courses, Community ESL courses, or the optional Friday courses.

  • In the Intermediate levels, each grammar course is 6 hours per week. Each course meets four times per week, either once a day (1.5 hours) for four days per week or twice per day (3.0 hours) for two days per week.
  • Please confirm acceptance of the certificate of hours directly with your au pair agency before registering.

Certification of Completion of Classroom Hours

At the end of a session of study, the Intensive English Program can provide a certificate of completion detailing the number of class hours the student attended. Most au pairs are able to use this certificate in lieu of required credits. Kennesaw State University does not provide course credit for Intensive English Program classes.

Please contact us at iep@kennesaw.edu or 470-578-2214 with any questions.

Part-Time Study on a B-1/B-2 Visa or ESTA

Individuals who have a B-1/B-2 visa or an ESTA waiver can attend classes in the Intensive English Program as a part-time student for a short recreational course, not for credit toward a degree. Attendance should be incidental to the main purpose for presence in the United States.

Part-time students who place into Intermediate to High Advanced can take 3–15 hours of classes per week.

How to Apply to the Intensive English Program

To apply to the Intensive English Program, please submit the following:

Change of Status from B-2 (Tourist) to F-1 (Student)

Application process for change of status from B-2 to F-1:

Please note the following before applying for a change of status from B-2 (Tourist) to F-1 (Student):

  • If you have a B-2 visa, you are not allowed to begin studying until your change of status is approved.
  • The normal processing time for a change of status is approximately 12 months and cannot be expedited.
  • If you travel outside the U.S. while your change of status application is pending, your application will be canceled.
  • Changes of status do not provide the student with an F-1 visa, but only the status of a student. If you receive change of status approval and then depart the U.S., you will need to apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. embassy before you will be able to re-enter the U.S. to resume your studies.
  • You must apply for the change of status before your I-94 expires; your desired date to start studying in the Intensive English Program should be no more than one month after your I-94 expires.
  • You must maintain your B-1/B-2 status until your change of status is approved by USCIS. If your B-1/B-2 status is going to expire and you are still waiting for your change of status, you will need to submit an I-539 application to extend your B-1/B-2 status and pay the associated fee.
  • If you leave the U.S. and return to your home country to apply for the F-1 visa, this processing time is much faster. You can view visa appointments and processing wait times at the U.S. Department of State visa wait times page .

Please contact the IEP if you are interested in applying for a change of status.
