This course is ideal for entrepreneurs, employees and businesses striving to expand brand awareness, increase exposure and boost the bottom line. With global social commerce revenues reaching $30 billion in 2015 (mediabistro), more companies are utilizing social media than ever before. The comprehensive program will teach you the basics of content creation and management for blogs, podcasts, and posts. Additionally, you will become savvy with the most popular outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest. In doing so, you will gain the ability to identify the functionality differences of each platform and determine which are best suited for your company’s success. The course will also discuss measuring metrics, legalities of social media, search engine optimization (SEO) and crowdsourcing.
Prerequisite: Working knowledge of computers and access to the internet are required. Experience and/or familiarity with common social media platforms is recommended.
Special notice: This class will be delivered online. You will need access to a computer with an internet connection that remains stable for the duration of the class. Though a chat feature is available, a microphone is preferred. For most productive audio/video participation, a webcam and/or headset are encouraged. Virtual classes may be recorded.
Tyra Burton
A senior lecturer of marketing at KSU since 2003, Tyra Burton helped develop and launch CCPE’s Social Media Marketing certificate program in 2013. An innovator in the classroom, she has taught students for more than 20 years on topics ranging from advertising to mythology.
Her first book, Socially Engaged: The Author’s Guide to Social Media, written with Jana Oliver, was published in October 2014. She is currently working on a follow-up social media book for independent authors.
Burton earned her B.B.A. in marketing from Georgia State University before receiving her M.S.M. in marketing and management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
The self-described gamer-girl and gadget geek, Burton lives in Atlanta with her husband and their three socially engaging fur babies.
