Graduate Spotlight: Private Healthcare Provider Expands Career with CNA Certificate
After working as a private caregiver for 12 years, Judy King decided to expand her healthcare knowledge and pursue new career opportunities.
“I wanted to get more education so that I could work in a healthcare facility,” said King. “I chose KSU Community and Professional Education because of its reputation and because my son attended Kennesaw State University. My goal was to learn medical procedures and how to protect myself and my clients.”
Judy enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate Program at KSU Community and Professional Education, where she gained practical patient care skills and clinical knowledge.

“The most valuable parts of the course for me were learning proper procedures, safety techniques, cleaning protocols, and how to safely transfer residents,” said King.
While the CNA curriculum was comprehensive, Judy said the instructors made a lasting impression.
“Getting back into the habit of studying was the biggest challenge, but the instructors created a comfortable and supportive learning environment,” she said. “They were knowledgeable and experienced, and they helped us understand how to communicate effectively with patients. Their professionalism and willingness to answer questions made a big difference.”
Judy credits the KSU Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate Program with helping her secure a healthcare job she enjoys.
“The CNA course prepared me to work in an assisted living facility,” she said. “I was hired based on my CNA certification, and I now work in both resident care and activities. The flexibility of my role has been incredibly rewarding.”
Judy encourages others interested in healthcare careers to consider CNA training.
“If you’re thinking about taking the course, just do it,” she said. “The skills you learn can help you care for patients, support family members, or continue your education in nursing. I still reference the materials I learned in the program.”
