This is an overview and introductory course of the Human Resource function where students learn the building blocks of effective Human Resource Management. The class will focus on the fundamental Federal laws that affect Human Resources Administration in every company large and small. It will also cover employee relations issues such as compensation, performance management, and discipline.

Lisa Hughes
Lisa Hughes, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR, has been a continuing education instructor for KSU’s HR certification program since 2012. She is a progressive, senior-level human resource professional with 20+ years comprehensive HR experience including organizational design and effectiveness, talent acquisition and management, cultural modification efforts, M&A assimilation, location start-up/closure, compensation and benefits, employee relations, recruitment, legal compliance, payroll and other related areas. Hughes is a creator of human resource strategies to further organizational objectives with proven track record of positive implementation.
Since 2014, Hughes has served as the vice president of human resources & administration for Nobis Works in Marietta, Ga. She provides strategic human resources leadership and guidance to the organization by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, performance management, succession planning, retention, training and development. She also guides Nobis Works’ cultural and diversity programs, compliance, employee relations, compensation and benefits in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction. Hughes is a key player in the areas of health and safety, corporate communications and information technology.
Hughes received her Bachelor of Science in Management from The Georgia Institute of Technology with certificates in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Economics. She received her Master of Science in Personnel and Employment Relations from Georgia State University. She obtained her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation in 1996, Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation in 2003, Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) in 2005 and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation in 2015.
In her spare time, Hughes served as the 2016-17 President for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) — Atlanta chapter.
An Atlanta native, Hughes lives in Canton with her husband Edwin. Together, they enjoy live music and attending auto races.
